The problem

  • The clothing industry is responsible for around 10% of all global greenhouse gas emissions.

  • It consumes more energy than the aviation and shipping industries combined.

  • 85% of textiles that could be reused or recycled end up in landfills or are incinerated, processes which, in themselves, pollute the planet.

High visibility workwear needs to maintain its luminosity and reflectivity in order to conform to industry standards and ensure the wearer’s safety in hazardous conditions. This gives it a limited shelf-life, usually to 25 or 50 wash cycles before it needs to be replaced. It is not an industry where one can “mend-and-make-do”.

In recent years, there has been an attempt to drive down pricing on safety workwear, leading to some manufacturers cutting corners: compromising ethically and environmentally as well as on quality. Leo Workwear introduced the EcoViz®  range as an antidote to this trend. EcoViz®  Workwear is high-quality clothing which minimises its environmental impact.

The solution

EcoViz recycled polyester is made from post-consumer PET plastic bottles, giving new life to materials that would otherwise go to waste. These bottles are transformed into a high-quality, durable polyester that fully complies with ISO 20471 standards.
